Aimee & Matthew’s Kinmount House Wedding
I’d been looking forward to photographing a wedding at Kinmount House for a long time. Even from looking online, it was clear this was an absolutely stunning location. Arriving in person lived up to that excitement: vast, grand and full of character, with a little bit of a Downton Abbey feel. If you love the finer things in life and want your wedding to have that sense of occasion, the approach to the house alone has a real wow factor.
Aimee and Matthew were a lovely couple to share my first wedding here with. Their day took us from preparations and a ceremony in the house to portraits by the water, before dinner and dancing in the grounds. I’m David Grant Simpson, a Glasgow-based wedding photographer working across Scotland, and this is their Kinmount House wedding story.
Getting ready and a ceremony inside Kinmount House
Aimee got ready in the house, where her hair and makeup took place. It’s a beautiful setting for those preparations, with the house itself becoming part of the story before the ceremony even begins.
The wedding planners and coordinators looked after me really well. Knowing it was my first visit, they showed me where everything was and took me on a walk around the grounds. I also spent time exploring and doing my own research, so I could make the most of the setting while keeping the photographs organised around Aimee and Matthew’s day.
The ceremony took place inside the house. Afterwards, we headed onto the driveway for a big confetti photograph and a group picture, then the drinks reception brought everyone back into the house.
Wedding portraits by the Boathouse and Bathing House
For portraits, we were whisked away in a Polaris off-road vehicle to explore the waterside locations. The Boathouse and Bathing House were brilliant places to work with, bringing the water and estate into the photographs.
I got the drone out for views of the Bathing House, and made photographs across the water at the Boathouse. We also walked through the grounds. You’re spoiled for choice here: between the buildings, water and landscape, you could easily keep finding pictures for hours.
Any transport around the estate or drone photographs would be something we discuss in advance and arrange around venue permission and suitable conditions. The photographs and experiences here reflect Aimee and Matthew’s day.
Beautiful portraits, with time left for your guests
As tempting as a place like Kinmount is, I want you to spend plenty of time with your guests. My style is to make the most of the locations without taking you away for hours on end. We’ll talk beforehand about the pictures you love and choose a manageable plan that fits your celebration.
For portraits, I’ll guide you when it helps and keep things relaxed. Most of my couples are camera-shy, so you don’t need to arrive knowing what to do. Getting to know you helps me capture your personalities, alongside the grand surroundings. My advice for camera-shy couples explains more about that approach.
Dinner, speeches and dancing at the Kinmount Pavilion
After our photographs, the celebration moved to the reception space a short distance from the main house for the meal, speeches and evening dancing. This is the Kinmount Pavilion, which the venue describes as its purpose-built space for wedding receptions.
That change of setting gives the day another chapter: the grandeur of the house, time exploring the grounds, then everyone gathering again for the evening celebrations.
Planning wedding photography at Kinmount House
For me, Kinmount suits couples who want a grand country-house experience with plenty of space and variety for photographs. It was a really special venue to visit, and I’d love to return.
We’ll plan family photographs, portraits and any trips further into the estate before the day, leaving some flexibility for the light and weather. The aim is to get organised together so you can enjoy your wedding, with fewer questions to answer while you’re celebrating.
You can explore current ceremony spaces and arrangements on the official Kinmount House website. If you’d like natural, candid photographs of your own day, have a look at my wedding photography in Scotland, read reviews from my couples, and tell me about your Kinmount House wedding plans.
