Rosebery Steading in Midlothian is one of the venues I photograph most often, and I always get excited to return. I love its mix of rustic charm and elegance: a countryside setting where you can have a beautiful wedding and still feel completely yourselves. If you’re adventurous, but would quite like to keep your dress clean, this place has plenty of appeal!

Tess and Luca’s Scottish-Brazilian wedding
Tess, from Scotland, and Luca, from Brazil, brought together two families and cultures for a truly unforgettable wedding. Many of Luca’s family and friends travelled to Scotland for the very first time to join the celebration, which added a wonderful energy to the day.
The atmosphere was amazing from start to finish, full of laughter, happy tears and plenty of dancing late into the night. You could really feel the love between these two families, which made it such a joy to photograph.
Why Rosebery Steading is one of my favourite wedding venues
I’ve photographed weddings at Rosebery Steading several times, and the variety is a big reason I love coming back. It has that rustic feel of a steading in the countryside, with a luxurious finish for couples who want a bit of elegance. It’s a lovely mixture of rural character and high-end style, without losing the relaxed atmosphere.
The courtyard, the accommodation around it and the generous indoor spaces give couples plenty of options for their celebration. There’s room for dining, ceremonies and dancing, and the team are very helpful. That combination of spaces and support makes it a venue I’m happy to recommend.

The courtyard, clock tower and archway
Back at the Steading, I love working with the courtyard, the clock tower and the archway. The buildings give us different backdrops, and we can use the light to make photographs with a lovely sense of the place. There’s plenty of variety close together, so we can choose what suits you without making portraits feel like a big expedition.
The countryside path and pond
From the Steading, you can walk out into the landscape along a path leading down to the pond. It’s beautiful at sunset, but it’s also a lovely place for pictures through the day. I like having that option alongside the courtyard and buildings: we can bring a little more of the countryside into your photographs if you fancy a wander.
Rosebery House, its chapel and gardens
Rosebery House offers another setting, with a beautiful chapel in its grounds and gardens that are really nicely kept. I love the light there, and the gardens offer lovely opportunities for photographs. If you’re considering a chapel ceremony or including the House in your plans, speak to the venue team about the arrangements and access that would be included in your booking.

Natural, candid wedding photography at Rosebery Steading

We can adjust when we go outside to make the most of breaks in the weather, and plan around the indoor spaces you’re using. There’s no need to spend the day worrying about the forecast. We’ll discuss options beforehand and work with the venue team so the photographs fit around your celebration.
