Dunollie Castle Wedding Photography | Hannah & Kyle's Beautiful Oban Wedding

There are some wedding days that perfectly capture everything I love about documentary wedding photography, and Hannah and Kyle's Dunollie Castle wedding in Oban was one of them.

Travelling from Glasgow to photograph weddings across Scotland is always a privilege, but heading up to Oban for this incredible celebration was particularly special. With stunning scenery, a relaxed atmosphere and a couple who made everyone feel welcome, it was a day that had all the ingredients for unforgettable wedding photography.

Getting Married at Dunollie Castle, Oban

Nestled on Scotland's beautiful west coast, Dunollie Castle provides a spectacular backdrop for a wedding. Hannah and Kyle chose to exchange their vows outdoors in front of the castle, surrounded by their closest friends and family. The setting couldn't have been more perfect.

The weather was kind to us throughout the day, allowing guests to enjoy the breathtaking grounds and coastal views that make Dunollie Castle such a unique wedding venue in Scotland. As the ceremony unfolded, there was a genuine sense of warmth and connection amongst everyone present. The smiles, laughter and emotional moments came naturally, creating exactly the kind of authentic memories I love to capture.

A Relaxed Tipi Reception Full of Atmosphere

Following the ceremony, guests made their way down to a beautiful tipi set within the castle grounds for the wedding reception. The atmosphere throughout the day was incredible and only continued to build as the celebrations progressed.

One of the things that stood out most was how sociable and fun everyone was. Hannah and Kyle had gathered a fantastic group of family and friends who were fully invested in celebrating together. This created endless opportunities for natural, candid moments and allowed me to photograph the day in my usual relaxed documentary style.

Rather than spending hours posing for photographs, everyone was able to enjoy the day while I captured genuine interactions, laughter, hugs and all of the little moments that make a wedding unique.

Woodland Portraits at Dunollie Castle

While documentary photography forms the heart of my approach, I always encourage couples to take a little time away from the celebrations for some portraits.

Dunollie Castle offers an amazing variety of backdrops, and I took Hannah and Kyle for a relaxed walk around the grounds and into the surrounding woodland. The ancient trees, soft light and natural surroundings created a wonderfully mystical atmosphere that suited them perfectly.

These portraits felt effortless and natural, allowing the couple a few quiet moments together before returning to the party. The woodland setting added a magical Scottish feel to their gallery and perfectly complemented the historic surroundings of Dunollie Castle.

An Unforgettable Dance Floor

As incredible as the ceremony and reception were, one of the standout moments of the entire day was undoubtedly the dance floor.

From the moment the music started, the energy in the tipi went through the roof. Guests packed the dance floor and stayed there all night. The enthusiasm, laughter and impressive dance moves made for some fantastic photographs and created an electric atmosphere that everyone will remember for years to come.

These are often my favourite moments to photograph because they're completely uninhibited. People are fully immersed in the celebration, and the resulting images capture the true spirit of the day.

A Wonderful Dunollie Castle Wedding

Hannah and Kyle were such a lovely, welcoming couple and it was an absolute pleasure to be part of their wedding day. From the outdoor ceremony in front of Dunollie Castle to the woodland portraits and the unforgettable party inside the tipi, every part of the day reflected their personalities and the incredible relationships they share with their family and friends.

As a Glasgow wedding photographer, I love travelling throughout Scotland to capture unique celebrations in beautiful locations, and this Dunollie Castle wedding in Oban was one I won't forget anytime soon.

If you're planning a wedding at Dunollie Castle, Oban, or anywhere across Scotland and are looking for natural, relaxed and documentary wedding photography, I'd love to hear more about your plans.
