Rowan & Robbie’s Two Day Edinburgh Wedding – City Chambers & The Pitt Leith

Edinburgh is one of those cities that never disappoints for weddings. I’m always excited when couples choose to celebrate here. Rowan and Robbie planned a two day Edinburgh wedding that felt intentional, relaxed and completely true to them — intimate family moments followed by a full scale party with all their favourite people.

It was modern, meaningful and effortlessly cool.

Day One – Intimate Ceremony at Edinburgh City Chambers & Portraits Through the Old Town

The first day centred around a small, family-only ceremony at Edinburgh City Chambers. Nestled just off the Royal Mile, the City Chambers is one of the most popular registry venues in the city — and for good reason. The historic setting provides a beautiful backdrop while keeping things simple and focused on what matters most.

Rowan and Robbie kept it intimate. Just their closest family, heartfelt vows, and a relaxed atmosphere that allowed everyone to really be present. These smaller ceremonies always have such an emotional depth — no distractions, just connection.

Afterwards, we stepped straight out into Edinburgh’s ancient streets for portraits. The Old Town offers endless photographic opportunities: cobbled closes, dramatic stone architecture, hidden courtyards and sweeping views toward Calton Hill. We wandered without rushing, making the most of the soft Scottish light and the character that makes Edinburgh weddings so visually unique.

There’s something special about wedding portraits in the heart of the city — passersby smiling, tourists applauding, the buzz of the Royal Mile contrasting beautifully with quiet moments between the two of them.

A Family Celebration at The Doric

After portraits, we headed to The Doric — Edinburgh’s oldest gastropub — for a warm, relaxed family meal. The wood panelled interiors and historic charm made it feel cosy and celebratory without being formal.

This part of the day felt like a proper exhale. Great food, laughter, stories being told across the table. No strict timelines. No pressure. Just celebration.

Splitting the wedding across two days allowed Rowan and Robbie to be fully present with their families on day one, without the whirlwind that often comes with larger guest lists.

Day Two – Big Party Energy at The Pitt

If day one was intimate and heartfelt, day two was bold, vibrant and full of energy.

The Pitt in Leith is one of Edinburgh’s coolest street food and market venues. Located down by the waterfront, it has an industrial, creative vibe that feels completely different from the grandeur of the Old Town. Colourful street food traders, open spaces, festoon lighting and a laid back atmosphere — it was the perfect choice for Rowan and Robbie’s big party.

This was the day for all the friends. Lots of guests. Lots of hugging. Lots of noise.

The beauty of hosting your wedding at The Pitt is the flexibility. Guests could explore different food vendors, grab drinks, mingle freely and truly make it a celebration rather than a formal sit down reception. It felt more like the best festival you’ve ever been to — but for a wedding.

As the evening rolled in, the dancing started… and it did not stop. The industrial backdrop, waterfront setting and packed dance floor made for incredible candid photography. Real moments. Big laughs. Wild dance moves. Exactly what you want from a party wedding in Edinburgh.

Doing It Their Way

What I loved most about this two day Edinburgh wedding was how intentionally Rowan and Robbie structured it. They weren’t tied to tradition. They built a celebration that reflected who they are:

  • Intimate family ceremony

  • Relaxed city portraits

  • Cosy pub meal

  • Epic street food party

  • Huge dance floor energy

By separating the ceremony and the party, they gave each part space to breathe. No rushing. No compromise.

As a wedding photographer based in Glasgow but shooting regularly in Edinburgh, I see more and more couples embracing this approach — creating flexible, multi day weddings that prioritise experience over expectation.

Edinburgh is perfect for it. Historic architecture, vibrant food scenes, waterfront venues in Leith, and endless portrait locations all within walking distance.
